Kiva is a worldwide micro-finance company supporting low income entrepreneurs. The word "Kiva' means unity in Swahili, the main language of East Africa.
Established in 2006 and employing over 117 plus 450 volunteers, Kiva has lent money in 77 different countries through 1.9 million lenders.
Founders Matt Flannery and Jessica Jackley visited africa to interview entrepreneurs about their growing pains and found access to start up capital was a common issue to overcome.
The Kiva platform enables anyone from around the globe to invest into small businesses and receive repayments on the loan that can then be relent to new business owners.
Kiva has helped lend over 1.5 billion in loans to nearly 4 million borrowers. The large majority of these loans have gone to women business owners.
The leadership team at Imperial Advance has supported businesses owners through Kiva for almost a decade. By supporting women owned businesses, we aim to help make the world a better place by helping to improve our world's food supply system and related infrastructure.
